The route begins at Calacalí’s Central Plaza and leads directly into the Pululahua volcano crater, one of the few inhabited geobotanical reserves in the world. From the Moraspungo checkpoint, you’ll descend into the crater, surrounded by native vegetation like orchids and other local plants. The trail is well-marked and ideal for cyclists experienced with steep paths.

This route has a medium-high difficulty level, with demanding climbs, especially as you approach Yunguilla. It’s recommended to be in good physical condition and to use a well-maintained mountain bike suitable for rugged terrain. The total round-trip distance is approximately 36 kilometers.

One of the main highlights of the route is arriving in Yunguilla, a community that has developed a successful model of sustainable community tourism. You can enjoy traditional food at El Mirador restaurant, with dishes like mote mapioso and pork ribs in chilguacán sauce. You also have the option to camp or stay in locally managed accommodations.
