What is colada morada?

Colada morada is no ordinary drink. This purple elixir is made from a unique blend of Andean fruits, herbs, and spices, and tasting it immerses you in a feeling of warmth and nostalgia. Each spoonful takes us back to the history of our ancestors, who prepared this beverage to honor their departed loved ones. In it, you’ll find mortiño, babaco, pineapple, ishpingo, and a mix of aromatic herbs that together give it that unmistakable touch. Quito Turismo

Guaguas de pan: More Than Just a Side Dish

If colada morada is the drink of the season, guaguas de pan are its perfect complement. These delicious bread figures, decorated with vibrant colors and filled with sweetness, carry a story deeply rooted in tradition. In the past, they were prepared as symbolic offerings for the departed; today, each bite reminds us of the importance of family and of honoring those who are no longer with us.

The Perfect Recipe: Colada Morada and Guaguas de Pan

Every household has its own version of colada morada, and the fun lies in tasting the different preparations you find at fairs, shops, and even on the street. But we all know that no matter where or how you try it, the real secret is enjoying it with a guagua de pan. This duo is not just a combination of flavors — it’s an experience that invites us to relive and share our traditions.
