Amagusa: A Magical Jungle Refuge Combining Comfort and Nature

A thoughtfully designed lodge has four well-appointed rooms with private baths and a large covered balcony with comfortable seating and panoramic views of the surrounding foothills. The sturdy roof protects the building from sudden downpours, so common in the rainforest.

From sunrise, our balcony becomes an observatory for birds visiting our light trap. But not only that, our guests can relax and enjoy themselves here at any time of the day. Many birds, including the colorful rose-faced parrots, come to the adjacent garden to feast on the banana trees.

A place that has it all

A few steps across the garden is our dining area, a perfect place to relax when not hiking or birding. In fact, the feeder closest to the dining area is often visited by some of our favorite tanagers, such as the dorsimusgosa and the glossy green. Hummingbirds cross through the feeder and visit the flowers often, sipping nectar from the delicate pale orange flowers.

From the dining room, a path leads you to our viewpoints. The first is our famous hummingbird garden. The second is our tanager viewing area, although many other birds may visit this area bordering the forest. Both viewing areas have roofs to protect our visitors from the humidity and allow the birds to move freely. In fact, some of our most frequent visitors find that hummingbirds perch on their cameras and cell phones, unafraid to coexist with our guests.
