The Former García Moreno was an Ecuadorian panopticon prison. Built by the government of President Gabriel García Moreno is currently a museum. The design was by Danish architect Thomas Reed.

Every day by reservation. Tuesday through Sunday: 09:00 to 15:30

It is on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano. It offers an impressive view of the city of Quito. It is part of the Recoleta that the priests of the Mercedarian order built since 1774 when the convent replaced a simple hermitage that had existed since the Spanish conquest.

The costs of niches and tombs are requested directly at the Iglesia del Tejar.

This cemetery keeps alive the architectural beauty, characterized by mausoleums in the classical, neoclassical, neo-Gothic, baroque, neo-baroque and eclectic styles.
We also find sarcophaguses, catafalques, and tombstones of rough stone, marble, andesite, and flagstone. There are neo-Byzantine, art nouveau, and art deco elements.
